BPTA Bargaining Update 8/23/23

Dear Colleagues,

Today BPTA's Bargaining Team continued negotiation discussions with the District. The discussions have continued to be positive and progress was made in many areas such as hourly rate of pay, salary schedules for our nurses and psychologists as well discussions regarding stipends.

Our salary negotiations continue in the right direction and our Team remains confident that the District will use the time between today's discussions and our next meeting on September 5th to find a way to deliver a number our members deserve.

Our Team is grateful for the more positive and transparent approach the District has brought to the table at each meeting and we remain optimistic the good will continues.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

BPTA's Bargaining Team

Bargaining Update August 3rd, 2023

Today your BPTA bargaining team met with the district office team to discuss several articles in the contract. We are happy to report that several Tentative Agreements were signed today regarding the elimination of outdated contract language and new state laws involving bereavement. We also had positive discussions and progress regarding stipends and evaluations for “non-teacher” members (nurses, psychologists, and SLPs). Proposals regarding Article 8, Salaries, were also exchanged by both parties and we are looking forward to further progress in this area when we meet again on August 23rd.  Please plan on attending the next school board meeting on August 14th as the Bargaining Team needs your support going into August 23rd’s negotiations.

See you all there,

Your Bargaining Team

Bargaining Update June 12, 2023

Discussions were limited to two hours as the District needed to prepare for the Board meeting that evening. The Bargaining Team and the District met from 1 pm to just after 3 pm.

Three tentative agreements were reached:

Tentative Agreement on Article 5-  5.9 was eliminated

Tentative Agreement on Article 7-Elimination of unnecessary articles 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, and 7.9

Tentative Agreement on Article 17- update to the government agencies for overseas service to include  AmeriCorps VISTA

The Bargaining Team continued discussions with the District regarding stipends for SLPs for Clinical Fellowship Mentorship, National Board Certification for SLPs, and psychologists and counselors. Discussions also continued regarding creating a separate evaluation for our SLPs, nurses, psychologists, and counselors. The District would like to set up a meeting over the summer with representatives from each group to look at sample evaluations for input.

The Bargaining Team will meet again with the District on August 3rd.

Thank you all for your involvement and for a great Board Meeting last night!

Please plan on coming to the next board meeting on June 26.  I think we have some momentum going, and we don’t want to lose it.  If you would like to speak, please contact me or Carol.  It would be great if a couple of people that haven’t spoken yet can do so at this meeting.

Thanks and hope to see you on the 26th,

Carl Hermreck

Negotiations 5/23/2023 Update

Today the bargaining team met with the district to negotiate next year's contract.

The following items were discussed:

  • Mentoring stipends for SLP’s, PAR, and BTSA
  • Salary schedule adjustments for Nurses and Psychologists
  • Updating bereavement language per recent state legislation
  • 2nd interim budget review

We have scheduled another bargaining session on June 12th.  It is imperative that we show solidarity at the next board meeting which happens to be on June 12th.  This is the meeting where our new superintendent will be introduced.  It is a great opportunity to show her how serious we are about the current situation and that we are united in our quest for being more of a priority in this district.

See you on the 12th

Carl Hermereck Bargaining Chair
